P.K MAYAN MOHAMED

Hailing from an aristocratic business family, P.K MAYAN MOHAMED, S/o late industrialist P.K MOHAMED, grandson of late A K KADERKUTTY SAHEB, who was the pioneer in wood working industries in South East Asia, was born in 1964 He had his early schooling in the prestigious Lawrence school Lovedale Ooty . He joined the College of Engineering, Trivandrum in 1983 for Mechanical Engineering. After graduation he went to Germany for the training field of sports goods machinery. Later in 1987 after he returned from Germany a factory was set up, the first of its kind in Indian, manufacturing German carbon graphite tennis rackets which found both national and international markets. Later he setup another factory for manufacturing tennis balls, shuttle cocks, carom boards, chess boards etc. In 2001 Mr. Mayan Mohamed joined the Western India plywood’s Ltd as Executive Director.

The rich and varied experience he gained during a decade of his association with various plants of integrated wood based complex of The Western India plywoods Ltd and thorough in depth knowledge he has imbibed about the raw materials used for production of various products has made him one of the few acknowledged specialists in the manufacture of wood based panel products in the country. His frequent interaction with leading manufactures of wood based products and manufacturers abroad where he travels extensively and frequently has helped him to keep abreast of the latest technological developments in the field. No doubt The Bureau of Indian Standards which formulate the standards for various products was quick enough to judge the caliber and technical knowledge of Mayan Mohamed and they made him as the member of the committee CED 20-composition of wood and other lignocelluloses sectional committee and CED20:1- composition of plywood, veneer and adhesive for wood product sub committee. He took over as the Managing Director of western India ply woods ltd after the sudden and sad demise of his beloved father Sri P.K Mohamed in September 2014.

As an entrepreneur, his calm demeanor & matter of fact approach are his strengths. The capacity to analyse matters using simple logic and a methodical approach to find solution are his key forte. As a person, his humility & soft spoken personality endear him to his peers and business associates. As one who can be relied on in time of adversity. He is a pillar of strength o those around him. In today’s rather brash & aggressive world of business, he is one of the few who is able to subtly work towards achieving his targets in a subdued manner without the need for accolades or recognition, carving his own path to success in his own quiet way.
